Peace of Mind Collaborative

Walking With You Toward Healing and Hope

Who We Are

Peace of Mind Collaborative is built on a foundation of connection, compassion, and community. We believe that healing happens not just within the therapy room, but within the relationships we build, the communities we support, and the spaces we create for people to feel safe, seen, and valued.

Our work is especially rooted in the strength of Colorado’s rural communities, where access to care can be limited and isolation can feel overwhelming. We’re here to change that. Peace of Mind Collaborative exists to expand access to behavioral health services, nurture resilience, and ensure that individuals and families throughout Colorado, especially those in rural regions, have a place to turn for support, understanding, and hope.

At our core, we believe in healing, growth, and the power of human connection. Our mission is to provide compassionate, effective behavioral health support to individuals of all ages, empowering each person to overcome challenges, build resilience, and move toward a more fulfilling life.

Our Story

Peace of Mind Collaborative was founded from a deep love for community, a passion for accessibility, and a commitment to supporting those who often go unseen in traditional behavioral health systems.

Our founder, Sara Short, has lived in Elizabeth, Colorado since 2009. Over the years, she raised her family in this rural community and witnessed both the beauty and the challenges that come with living outside the city, limited services, longer wait times, and increased stigma around seeking help. She also saw the incredible strength, generosity, and interconnectedness that define rural living.

Sara envisioned an organization that would bring care closer to home, reduce barriers, and create a genuine sense of belonging for those seeking support. What began as a vision has grown into Peace of Mind Collaborative: a nonprofit committed to making high-quality mental health care accessible, personalized, and stigma-free for people across Colorado, regardless of where they live or what they’re facing.

What Sets Us Apart

Holistic, Whole-Person Care

We understand that mental health is deeply connected to physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Our approach blends evidence-based therapies with mindfulness, resilience-building, and strength-focused techniques, creating a pathway to healing that honors the whole person.

Client-Centered, Heart-Centered Support

Every individual we serve comes with their own story, strengths, and experiences. We take the time to listen, understand, and collaborate, ensuring each person receives care that reflects their values, goals, and needs. You are the expert on your life, we are simply here to help you navigate it with compassion and clarity.

A Safe, Inclusive, Welcoming Environment

Your safety, comfort, and dignity matter to us. Whether you’re joining us in our rural Elizabeth office or connecting through telehealth, you’ll find a space where you are respected, supported, and met with empathy. There is no judgment here, only connection, understanding, and care.

Our Commitment

Empowerment

We believe in empowering individuals to take an active role in their healing journey. Through guidance, education, and ongoing support, we help you build the tools and confidence needed to create meaningful, lasting change.

Collaboration

We view therapy as a partnership. Together, we set goals, navigate challenges, celebrate progress, and work toward a life that feels more grounded, connected, and fulfilling. You won’t walk this path alone, we’re here every step of the way.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

Peace of Mind Collaborative values service, collaboration, and community connection. We actively participate in local events, partner with community organizations, and work to create spaces where mental health is talked about openly and without stigma.

We are proud to support and strengthen Colorado’s rural communities through outreach, education, and advocacy. Our involvement with regional partners, including the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce, reflects our commitment to uplifting the places we call home.

Get Started

If you’re ready to begin a journey of healing, growth, and self-discovery, we’re here to walk alongside you. Whether you’re seeking support for yourself, your child, your family, or your community, Peace of Mind Collaborative welcomes you with open hearts and open hands.

Thank you for considering us as your partner in wellness. Together, we can build a stronger, more connected Colorado, because everyone deserves peace of mind.

Our Mission

At Peace of Mind Collaborative, our mission is to provide compassionate, equitable, and community-rooted behavioral health support to individuals and families across Colorado, with a special commitment to strengthening rural communities where access to care is too often limited.

We work to reduce barriers, uplift voices, and create pathways to healing by offering high-quality, stigma-free support close to home. Whether in person or through flexible telehealth, we are dedicated to ensuring that everyone, regardless of location or circumstance, has access to the care they deserve.

Our heart is especially with those who serve others. We offer tailored support for first responders, law enforcement, military personnel, educators, frontline workers, and their families, honoring the unique burdens carried by those who protect, teach, and care for our communities.

Through trauma-informed care, advocacy, and meaningful community engagement, we strive to empower individuals, strengthen families, and foster resilience across Colorado’s rural landscape.

Together, we’re building a healthier, more connected community, one where hope grows, compassion leads, and every person has the opportunity to find peace of mind.

Our Vision

Our vision is a Colorado where mental-health care is accessible to all, free of stigma, and deeply woven into the fabric of community life.

We imagine a future where individuals from every background, especially those living in rural areas or serving on the frontlines, feel supported, empowered, and encouraged to prioritize their mental and emotional well-being without fear or barriers.

Through advocacy, education, and equitable care, we aim to inspire lasting change and help create communities where every person has the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive.

At Peace of Mind Collaborative, equitable mental-health care isn’t just our goal, it’s our purpose.

Throughout our lives, we all face moments of challenge, growth, and transition. In a world that is constantly shifting, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or unsure of how to move forward. Yet even in the hardest seasons, healing and balance are possible. I believe in each person’s innate capacity for change, and that none of us should have to walk that journey alone.

I approach my work from a holistic perspective, honoring the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of well-being. When we address the whole person, we create space for deeper understanding, resilience, and meaningful transformation. Together, we will explore your experiences, identify what’s standing in your way, and build a path toward growth that feels grounded and empowering.

I earned my master’s degree in social work from New York University in 2004 and bring more than twenty years of experience supporting children, adolescents, and adults. My background includes working with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, psychosis, mood dysregulation, addiction, and complex personality structures. I’ve had the privilege of serving clients in both inpatient and outpatient settings across public and private sectors, experiences that have shaped my understanding of the diverse ways people struggle and heal.

Therapy is a journey we take together. My role is to offer guidance, support, and encouragement as you build the skills, insight, and confidence needed to move toward a more peaceful, connected, and fulfilling life.

With 25 years of experience in the mental health field, I bring a compassionate, holistic, and client-centered approach to the work I do. I am dual-licensed in Colorado as a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Candidate (LPCC), and I hold a Master’s in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals, adolescents, and families through a wide range of challenges, including ten years dedicated specifically to helping those affected by alcohol and substance use. I am also experienced in supporting individuals with co-occurring mental health concerns.

Trauma-informed care is at the heart of my practice. I frequently use motivational interviewing to encourage meaningful change, and I draw from Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS), all of which I’ve utilized effectively for more than a decade. I also incorporate mindfulness-based tools, such as breathing techniques and tapping, to help clients manage PTSD, anxiety, and depression with practical, grounded strategies.

I am especially passionate about group therapy and love creating spaces where people feel supported, understood, and empowered to grow. Serving rural communities is deeply meaningful to me, and I enjoy giving back through local volunteer opportunities.

Outside of work, I embrace everything Colorado has to offer. You can often find me exploring new hiking trails, enjoying time outdoors, or traveling with my family, especially my grandbabies. Since moving from Oregon in 2020, Colorado has truly become home for me. I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring my experience, compassion, and heart for community to Peace of Mind Collaborative.

My goal is to create a safe, intentional space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered as we navigate life’s challenges together and build a path toward healing and renewed well-being.

I take an eclectic, individualized approach to therapy, tailoring my methods to best support your needs. My practice is grounded in evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Trauma-Informed Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

These tools help me effectively address anxiety, depression, substance use, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in both adolescents and adults.

Outside the therapy room, I recharge by embracing the beauty of Colorado, camping, hiking, kayaking, and soaking up the sunshine whenever I can. I love attending concerts and theater performances, and I’m a dedicated fan of the Broncos, Nuggets, and Avalanche. Most importantly, I cherish time with my family and my beloved fur-babies.

If you’re ready to take the next step in your journey, I would be honored to walk with you as we work toward a brighter, healthier future together.

I earned my master’s degree from Capella University and spent five years in Washington working as a mental health and substance use provider before returning to Colorado.

As a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), I am dedicated to supporting individuals living with addiction and co-occurring mental health concerns, meeting each person with understanding, respect, and hope.

Outside of my clinical work, I love embracing the adventure and beauty that Colorado has to offer. I take my role seriously, which means helping create a space where clients feel welcomed, comforted, and at ease from the moment they walk through the door.

I am what humans like to call a “Velcro dog,” which simply means I stay close to my person and keep a gentle watch over the office. You will often find me nearby, offering a calm presence and helping the space feel warm and grounded.

Greeting clients is one of my favorite parts of the day. I am always happy to offer a friendly wag, a gentle nuzzle, or occasionally show off a trick if the moment is right. Once I know everyone is settled and comfortable, I am content to relax quietly while therapy sessions take place.

As a therapy dog in training, I am continuing to build my skills and experience. I also take pride in helping show my little brother, Jet, the ropes as he begins his own journey. I love being part of the Peace of Mind Collaborative family and supporting healing, connection, and comfort in my own special way.

Client Consent & Allergy Notice

Peace of Mind Collaborative is committed to creating a safe and comfortable environment for all clients. The presence of therapy dogs is always optional. Clients will be informed in advance when a therapy dog may be present and may request sessions without animals at any time.

While our therapy dogs are Standard Poodles and are often well tolerated by individuals with allergies, responses can vary. Please let your clinician or our administrative team know about any allergies, sensitivities, fears, or preferences so we can best accommodate your needs.

Hi there! My name is Jet, and I am the newest four-legged member of the Peace of Mind Collaborative team. I am a Royal Standard Poodle and am settling in well as I begin my journey toward becoming a therapy dog.

I have already enjoyed meeting many of our in-person clients and am learning what it means to provide calm, comfort, and connection in a therapeutic space. I am especially grateful to be learning alongside my big sister, Ginger, who has been showing me the ropes and teaching me how to do my very important job well.

Over time, I will continue my training so that I can begin joining select therapy sessions and, eventually, head out into the community with the Peace of Mind Collaborative team to meet and support our community partners. My gentle nature, curiosity, and love for people make me excited for the role I am growing into.

For now, I am focused on learning, growing, and practicing my best therapy-dog skills. I look forward to meeting you and becoming another furry source of support, healing, and peace of mind here at
