Planting Roots for Rural Colorado’s Mental Health

Building a Permanent Behavioral Health & Community Wellness Center in Elizabeth, Colorado

Our rural community is growing, changing, and facing challenges that require strong, stable support. Peace of Mind Collaborative is launching a $2,000,000 Capital Campaign to build a permanent home for behavioral health services in the heart of downtown Elizabeth, CO, a place where children, families, first responders, educators, and veterans can always access compassionate care close to home.

This campaign is more than a construction project.

It is an investment in belonging, dignity, stability, and hope for generations to come.

Why This Matters: A Community Asking for Help

Founder and President Sara Short has lived in Elizabeth since 2009 and raised her family here. She has seen firsthand how our rural town has changed, and how many neighbors silently struggle with mental health needs, trauma, addiction, and financial hardship.

As Denver’s metro expansion pushes outward, commercial rents in small towns like ours continue to rise. Many local nonprofits and small service providers have already lost their spaces. Without intervention, essential mental health resources could disappear.

Our community called out for help and Peace of Mind Collaborative is answering.

We are committed to ensuring that no one in rural Colorado goes without support simply because they live far from the city or can’t afford care.

Who We Serve

Our doors are open to anyone seeking a safe place to heal, including:

  • Children and adolescents
  • Family members struggling with a loved one's mental health, substance use, addiction, or trauma
  • First responders
  • Educators
  • Law enforcement
  • Veterans, military, and their families
  • Adolescents and adults navigating depression, anxiety, addiction, or complex mental health challenges

For these individuals and families, stable, accessible mental health care is not optional. It is life-changing.

Our Vision: A Permanent Behavioral Health & Community Wellness Center

This new facility will anchor mental health care in our rural region for decades to come.

The center will include:

  • 8–12 private therapy rooms
  • A children’s therapy and playroom
  • Group therapy rooms
  • Telehealth suites for remote access
  • A welcoming lobby
  • An outdoor healing courtyard
  • Offices for clinical and administrative staff

The location will be:

  • Centrally located in downtown Elizabeth
  • A safe, permanent foundation for long-term behavioral health care

Impact Projections

Once built, the facility will allow us to:

  • Increase capacity by 100%
  • Provide over 2,000 free and reduced-cost sessions per year
  • Create dedicated safe space for children and teens
  • Expand services for first responders, law enforcement, and veterans
  • Hire additional clinicians
  • Offer more crisis support and same-week appointments
  • Strengthen partnerships with schools, law enforcement, and community groups

This project will create long-term stability in a rural area that urgently needs it.

Why Rural Colorado Needs This Now

Rural communities experience higher rates of:

  • Suicide
  • Untreated depression
  • Substance use
  • Social isolation
  • Barriers to care due to distance and cost
  • Fewer mental health providers per capita

With rising rents and commercial development pushing east from Denver, the risk of losing accessible mental health services grows every year.

A permanent facility is not simply helpful, it is essential.

Naming Opportunities: Honoring Your Generosity

When you give to this campaign, you are not only helping build a facility, you are helping plant lasting roots for healing in our rural community. We are grateful for every gift, and we want to offer special ways to recognize those who feel called to make a leadership-level contribution.

Naming opportunities are a way to connect your story, your family, your business, or a loved one’s legacy to a space that will support healing for years to come.

Featured Naming Opportunities

Entire Building
Help create a permanent home for rural mental health care in Elizabeth. This naming opportunity recognizes the lead partner who makes it possible for our community to have a stable, long-term place to receive support.

Healing Courtyard
This outdoor space will offer a quiet place to breathe, reflect, and reconnect with nature. A donor who names the courtyard will help create a peaceful environment for children, families, and first responders who need a moment of calm.

Group Therapy Rooms
These rooms will hold support groups, education nights, and wellness workshops. Naming a group room is a powerful way to honor a loved one or show your commitment to community connection.

Children’s Therapy and Playroom
This warm, welcoming space will be designed just for kids and teens. A donor who names this room will help create a safe place where young people can feel seen, heard, and supported.

Telehealth Suite
This space will connect people in even more rural areas to care when they cannot make it to the office. Naming the telehealth suite reflects a commitment to reaching those who are often the hardest to reach.

Individual Therapy Rooms
Each therapy room will be a private, calming space where healing conversations happen every day. Naming a room offers a meaningful and lasting way to support ongoing care.

Lobby and Welcome Area
The first impression of our center will be a warm, inviting space where people feel at ease. A donor who names the lobby helps create that feeling of comfort from the moment someone walks in the door.

Community Sponsor Wall
We will also feature a special recognition area inside the building that honors businesses, families, and individuals whose generous gifts helped make this project possible.

Let’s Match the Right Opportunity to Your Heart

We know that each donor’s capacity and story is different. Our goal is to help you find a naming opportunity that feels meaningful to you, whether you are honoring a loved one, supporting a cause close to your heart, or giving back to the community you call home.
